The Fallout – Raise Your Flag And Other Anthems

AVAILABLE SOON-03.jpg

Rebel Time Records is very happy to present The Fallout’s new 4-song 7-inch platter “Raise Your Flag And Other Anthems” … we’ve been big fans of the band and their music / message since first hearing their “Turning Revolution Into Money” album many years ago and we’re just so stoked to have them on the label … the record is available digitally right now on Spotify, Bandcamp, Deezer, etc, etc and we should have the vinyl version in our hands in a week or so. ( UPDATE: vinyl is in and available at the Rebel Time Records bandcamp site. Available via stores and distros shortly ).

Taking their cue from Pete Seeger’s quote “the people are on the march and must have songs to sing,”  The Fallout present four tracks of partisan and unapologetically political agitp(r)op punk rock … songs of unity, inclusion, solidarity and struggle … dedicated to Todd Serious … straight-up, stripped-down political punk rock .

Thanks to the band for the great tunes and for their trust in Rebel Time Records, thanks to Cactus and Anxiety Attack Designs for the amazing artwork and layout and thanks to you for listening / buying / supporting.

Here’s a very kind review from PunkOnline:

“The Fallout describe their sound as “straight-up, stripped-down politically-charged punk rock that’s got backbone and backbeat” and they are dead on the money. Their latest four-track EP, Raise Your Flag And Other Anthems, sees the Toronto, Canada based band on stellar form.

The fast-paced yet melodic punk rock of Red Light Union blends the likes of The Blitz, Bad Religion and the UK Subs to craft a belting sound with some excellent vocal interplay. The SLF like guitar opening to Walk In The Sun sets up a maniacally fast drumbeat and some seriously energetic punk rock power that blows away the cobwebs completely.

The superb Raise Your Flag is next, and the pace is maintained although the group vocals encourage a streetpunk, ‘punch the air’ response that had the entire office moshing with huge smiles on our faces. The closer, Wage Slave seals the deal with a chunky, serrated guitar and anthemic like vocal delivery. As the song fades, I am left with a feeling of discovering the spirit of punk alive and kicking with a rhythm section that is simply outstanding.”

The Fallout’s new record “Raise Your Flag & Other Anthems” is almost ready!

The Fallout have been a long standing Toronto based punk band, releasing music on notable labels such as Longshot Music, Insurgence Records, Red Menace Records, and now on your very own Rebel Time Records!   Yes…we are very proud to welcome them to the label.

Needless to say, we have a close working relationship with the band that goes way back, so very happy to put this thing out to the world.   The bands straight-up, stripped down political punk anthems are the perfect fit in our seriously decent catalogue of releases; and they’ve played many many of our shows throughout the years.  It’s a good feel story from start to finish!

We’ve had the pleasure of listening to the mixes of their new album and like their previous releases, there are more than a few true classics to be found.   Until the full length release is finished and out, we’re ready to put out a new 4-song 7″ entitled “Raise Your Flag and Other Anthems” in time for the heat of the summer!

We’ll have full release details shortly, for now, check out the brand new “hit” song “Raise your Flag”!!! and check the lyrics below!  Happy listening!  Oh, and the footage is from the Toronto Pride Parade back in 1973!

… Toronto Pride Parade … 1973 …

RAISE YOUR FLAG

Raise your flag, Raise it high
Let them look you in the eye
Side by side
Show your pride
Wave your flag, wave your flag
Raise your flag, Raise it high
And when they look you in the eye
Wave your flag, wave your flag, wave your flag

Double standards of the hypocrites
They condescend as you bite your lip
You’re in my heart
You’re on my mind
You don’t have to take that shit

On the horizon is a new frontier
If you feel alone or you’re getting scared
With all your spirit
And all your soul
You know there is nothing to fear

Sing if you’re glad to be gay

Homophobes are just a dying breed
As they cling to an illegitimate creed
You’re in my heart
You’re on my mind
They offer nothing that you can believe

All their hate they never take a rest
Stunning ignorance takes away your breath
With all your spirit
And all your soul

Resolve that you’ll never forget

To sing if you’re happy that way

A Few Words With Urban Vietcong – English / Italian / Spanish

Note: updated on August 6, 2019 to include a Spanish version of the interview answers. Thanks so much to RASH CDMX for the Spanish translation!!

Here’s an interview we did about a year ago with Livorno, Italy’s Urban Vietcong. The interview came about after we heard the band’s debut album “A Colpi Mi Machete.” Simply amazing left-radical punk/oi/core.

As previously noted, we, along with Dure Realitie out of Montreal, will releasing a limited edition cassette version of the band’s sophmore release “Storie Tra Bottiglie E Ciminiere” which is due out at the end of October. Vinyl and CD will be out via Out of Control, Fire and Flames music and Rumagna Sgroza. Of course, we’ll be sure to get some copies of the vinyl/CD in as well!

UrbanVietcong

Please introduce yourselves! Who / what is Urban Vietcong?

Urban Vietcong was born in October 2015  from the ashes of Trade Unions. Trade uvtwoUnions was a band that mixed oi! with hardcore and existed from 2004 until 2015. When Trade Unions ended , Sciu and Bebe searched for a new guitarist and new drummer to form a new band, because they were  both still thirsty for the stage! Giova and Fante were the answer to our prayers , both for kinship and for sound, because with different influences (melodic hardcore, punk rock ) the sound has become more original. When people ask us what kind of music we play ,we are in trouble because we mix everything we like, from oi! to punk rock.

The band released as 6-song CD in 2016 called “A Colpi Mi Machete.” What are some of the themes of the album?

The themes of ours songs are related to our everyday lives, from the bar to  the struggles of our city. For example in “Livorno Non Si Piega,” we speak of struggle of our ancestors against the invaders, right up to the present day, to defend the rights of the working class or against the new bosses..”Hunger Strike & Troubles” speaks about the Irish conflict. In “Attacco” we express our desire for a greater organization of left movement, in order to, as Majakovskij said, to attack the sky.  In other songs we talk more about everyday life and urbbanvietcongcoverpirate life!

“Hunger strike and troubles” parla del conflitto irlandese.

Urban Vietcong sings about political issues. Are there any political issues you are involved in on a personal basis, or as a band?

Music, as well as  being fun, and a way to come together, is a means of communication and a way to convey our ideas. In Italy and also in other countries, capital with its means and methods (fascists, police and politicians) is increasingly depleting the less well-off classes. We are only a drop in the sea, but in our social centre and  in our own little way we try to do something to combat this, such as defending historical memory (partisans), anti-fascism,  the right to housing, and more.

Are there any other good political bands from Italy that you would recommend?

The most political and historic band in Italy is ska band, Banda Bassotti. In addition to uvonethis, in the oi / punk scene, we can’t forget name likes Atarassia Group, S-Contro, Barricata Rossa, Attaccabrighe, Sempre Peggio, Azione Diretta, Malasuerte….we apologize if we forgot someone!

Future plans?

Assault the empire! At this time we are going to continue to promote “A Colpi Di Machete” and in January we will begin recording a new album. And, of course, bring socialism to Canada with our sound!

Discoccupati senza dio e rifugiati
presi a calci in faccia trattati come feccia

sguinzagliando digos usando tribunali
seduti sempre dalla parte sbagliata
insieme allo sfruttato dietro una barricata
ATTACCO vietcong a colpi di machete
ATTACCO al razzismo come pantere nere
ATTACCO come Palestina contro israele
ATTACCO come Spartaco contro il potere

Antifà dal 1591, leggi livornine qui nessuno è straniero
Villani con Guerrino sconfiggono l’impero
Fischiano i cannoni soffia il vento garbino
A morte l’austriaco sovrano, popolano resiste dalle sue porte

Sognai la libertà, mi opposi all’impero

Urban Vietcong – “Storie Tra Bottiglie E Ciminiere.”

Urban Vietcong, out of Livorno, Italy, have been highly recommended by Rebel Time Records for some time now. Their first album “A Colpi Di Machete” hasn’t really left our turntable since it’s release in 2016 (we still have a few copies for sale). Quite simply, amazing left-radical punk/oi/core .

So, we’re really excited to be a part of their sophmore release”Storie Tra Bottiglie E Ciminiere.” It’s out in mid-October and Rebel Time Records along with Dure Realitie (out of Montreal) will be releasing a limited edition cassette version of the album. Vinyl and CD will be handled by Out Of Control, Fire and Flames and Rumagna Sgroza.

Here are a couple of tracks from the new album!

Quanti anni quella fabbrica ha divorato
Gioventù vola presto via
A lavoro sottopagato
Ogni giorno pura agonia
Gelida questa notte d’inverno
I demoni ti invitano all’inferno
Prendimi e portami via da qua
Finche il sole ci riabbraccerà

Han rubato il tuo futuro
Vorresti andar dritto contro il muro
Non farti ingabbiare resta ribelle
Esci dal fango punta alle stelle
È un cantico dei condannati
Sogni svaniti e cassa integrati

Bruciano ancora quegli occhi insanguinati
Pulsa piu forte e continua a combattere
Catene stringono polsi neri
Black power e sempre fieri
Siamo i dannati della terra
Affronteremo questa sporca guerra

La polizia continua a sparare
Pulizia etnica e razziale
Ricorda le pantere nere
Dai quartieri contro il capitale
La disperazione diventi rivoluzione
Lotta di classe senza alcun colore
Come un incendio boschivo
Brucia tutto sul suo cammino

Rit.
Gettatemi pure all’inferno
Vi prometto odio eterno
Che questa terra sia maledetta
la nostra rabbia tempesta perfetta

Hold A Grudge – “No Compromise” Cassette

Here at Rebel Time Records it’s no secret that we’re all big fans of Hold A Grudge. Straight out of Montreal, Quebec, they are a perfect blend / perfect storm of punk, hardcore and oi.  Very happy to have had them play Rebel Fest a few years back!

As their bio says: “Hold A Grudge is a perfect mix of the anger of hardcore, street-punk’s spirit of revolt and the uncompromising attitude of Oi.”

The most recent line-up of Hold A Grudge is/was: Dan 86 on Guitar,  Jee-P  haggroupdoing up Vocals, Mat Oi on Bass and Scott on Drums. Let it be noted that these guys have played in/do play in such bands as Jeunesse Apatride, Subsistence, Shotcallers, Bastard 86, King Cans and Dynamite Express  …  seasoned veterans for sure!

Sadly, the band broke up in 2016. Happily, they did record some new material prior to their demise.  Rebel Time Records was stoked to, in conjunction with the fine folks at Dure Realitie in Montreal, release 11 of Hold A Grudge’s finest tracks on a limited-edition cassette!

There are a very few copies of the cassette still available via the Rebel Time Records bandcamp page

… straight to the point / straight to the point / straight to the point / fuck you fascists …

Cambridge – “This Is Not A Victory” – Free Download

Back in 2010, we released a corker of an album by Cambridge, a great political hardcore outfit from British Columbia. They have long since broken up and leader singer/guitarist Jesse LeBourdais has carved out quite a name for himself as a solo act. The album was “This Is Not A Victory” and we said of it:

Hailing from Vancouver, BC, CAMBRIDGE plays a brand of punk rock that is hard to encapsulate. Mixing politics, social maladjustment, and personal anger with speed, melody and hardcore ethics, they hold true to the DIY roots and styles of the past while pushing the envelope of originality. Their second full length release THIS IS NOT A VICTORY is 10 incendiary tracks, all at break-neck speeds, dealing with topics like torture, heartbreak, war, corporate greed, environmental catastrophe and other betrayed ideals. The passion in the lyrics resonates and the anger on the surface is matched by music that will have you banging your head, raising your fist and singing along. THIS IS NOT A VICTORY reminds you that punk rock doesn’t have to be resigned to simple songs, with simple messages, and that anger and music combined can be a unifying, positive experience.

In the spirit of ‘giving the people what they want,’ and due to overwhelming demand, the band has now made all their music, including “This Is Not A Victory” available for free download at their Bandcamp page or the Bandcamp page.

Don’t delay, download today!

CambridgeTINAVCoverWEB[1]“These chaps are Canadian. Which is not a bad start. They play a rough-and-ready mix of the more melodic end of hardcore, like a speeded up Jawbreaker, or a furious Hot Water Music, or a slightly more demonic Good Riddance. Save, instead of songs about angst and emo and whatnot, they’re suitably indignant about covert torture programs and coporate malfeasance. As one well might be. Don’t have to be Canadian to pen such gloriously melodic defiance, but apparrently it helps. Apparently this is their second full-length. Good family men (wives and girlfriends are the first on the thanks list), which makes me want to check out their first (and hopefully third) record even more. Though, to be honest, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the rather stupendous Rebel Time Records” (Maximum Rock N Roll)

“Cambridge released their second full length album this summer on Rebel Time Records. The Vancouver bands new release, titled This is Not a Victory, contains ten tracks of fast-paced, melodic, and politically-charged punk rock. Known for their distinct and complex sound, Cambridge carries forward their own brand of fiery hardcore anthems in This is Not a Victory, while assaulting injustice at every turn. The albums lyrics deal with issues such as torture, war, democracy, corporate greed, and the environmental disaster that is the Albertan tar sands. Pretty heavy stuff. Yet, anyone who has seen Cambridge live can attest that they appear to have a hell of a lot of fun railing against such injustices and, hopefully, inspiring action through their chosen medium, and this comes across in their music. This is Not a Victory is a reminder that punk rock and resistance go together, and that the notion that all punk sounds the same is a fallacy which is ridiculous to the extreme. Favourite tracks: Kubark, Neverending Story, Middle of Nowhere.” (Rebel Youth Magazine)

“Quick punk licks and fast beats. Say hello to melody people, Cambridge aren’t afraid to say what they think and stick up for what they believe in. With political overtones draped over every song, Cambridge preaches a little louder than I am able to hear, but that doesn’t mean it ever stops being good tunes, it just means that I’m a stoner with the attention span of a small gerbil. But this gerbil was running on his wheel the whole time that Cambridge’s second full length album was playing. Jesse LeBourdais belts out strong vocals throughout the album with a vast range of highs and lows the have you visualizing the spittle flying across the room. The same could be said for the drums that go from fast to faster. Add some solid bass and speedy guitar action and you’ve got yourself one hell of an album. This Is Not A Victory is some of the band’s finest work to date, and their hard work paid off getting them signed to Rebel Time Records. Cambridge has been around for over five years now and hopefully they’ll have the energy and the gusto to be around for five more.”  (Absolute Underground)

The Fallout – (Still) Turning Revolution Into Money

Back in 2004, The Fallout released their first – and classic- album “Turning Revolution Into Money” on Longshot Music. The album was recorded at guitarist Byron’s home studio ‘The Farmhouse,’ where, incidentally, he has also recorded other Rebel Time Records bands like The Rotten and The Class Assassins.

Recently, Byron has taken it upon himself to remix, remaster and digitally re-release this first album, to be followed by a similar treatment of the band’s subsequent albums. Continue reading “The Fallout – (Still) Turning Revolution Into Money”
