What follows is an interview with Action Sedition done up for the February 2014 issue of Tres Flechas zine (put out by RASH GDL), out of Guadalajara, Mexico. English version followed by Spanish version! Thanks to RASH GDL for sharing it with us!
3FZ – How are you guys? Could you please introduce yourselves and tell us how the band started.
Greetings comrades! Action Sedition is made up of Milioi! (ex – Diarrhée Bucale, Les Gens D’armes) on bass and vocals, Remi (ex – In Situ) on guitar, Bo ( ex – Open Wounds) on guitar, Eric on vocals and Junior on drums. The band was formed with its current line-up in September 2011, following our first show in Montreal.
In the five years leading up to this, many tentative band projects were put together involving the current members of Action Sedition, all of whom were already comrades hailing from the same crew. Our musical influences were different, ranging from Hardcore to street-punk , from metal to anarcho-punk, and obviously, Oi!
3FZ – “Rapport de Force” is a fucking great CD, 8 songs played in a punk/oi style. What can you tell us about it?
“Rapport de Force” is our first CD, which also served as a demo. When it came time to record, we had enough songs for an LP, so we went with it! The album is entirely DIY and was recorded in a Hip-Hop studio which belongs to our friends from the K6A collective. Since Bo studied computer graphics, we were also able to come up with all of the artwork for the CD.
The 8 songs deal with different themes which center around politics and friendship. At our 
shows, as on “Rapport de Force”,” we are a band who take a stance; we consider ourselves libertarian, feminist and antifascist, and are proud of it. Many subjects are dear to us: “Soeurs D’ Armes” talks about the women in our scene, “Prisonniers Politiques” deals with our hatred of the justice system and its police and “L’Exploiteur” talks about the exploitation of workers in South America who are underpaid in order to provide the North with products as cheap as possible.
3FZ – How did you choose the name ACTION SEDITION, what does this name mean to you?
It was very difficult for us to chose a name; we already had shows lined up and we still hadn’t found a name! It took about 2 or 3 practices for us to be able to decide on the name Action Sedition. The french word ‘sedition’ means a plot to overthrow the government or current power structure. Since many revolutionary groups through history have been accused of ‘sedition’, we thought it would be a good way to salute them. The inspiration for the band’s name also came from the song “La Sedition” from french Hip-Hop artists “2 Bal 2 Neg”, which is featured on the soundtrack for the movie “Ma 6-T va cracker”. This movie talks about the suburban ghettos in France and accurately reflects our ideas and values on the subject.
3FZ – You have a woman bass-player/singer. In Montreal, how active is women’s participation in the punk and skin movement or in political organizations.
In Montreal, and pretty much everywhere else, women in the scene have to deal with an openly macho discourse or macho attitudes hidden behind apparent feminism. Thankfully, women are still very present in the punk and skinhead scenes, particularly when these scenes are politicised. Here in Montreal, many women are band members or members of communist or anarchist collectives: there is even an all women collective here called “Montreal Sisterhood”. This group was created to react to sexist attitudes in our scene and to fight against fascism, patriarchy and capitalism.
3FZ – You are a political band. Have you had any problems at your shows because of your political ideas? Is talking about politics a problem in Montreal?
We have never had problems related to our political views during our show, whether from nazis or cops. Montreal is a relatively open-minded city politically and boneheads aren’t really a menace to our scene. The small amount of nazis that are present and they stay pretty quiet and haven’t tried to attack any of our shows. They even have problems booking their own shows; to do so, they have to organize secret concerts in the suburbs, far from the city. The only thing they’ve done is post pictures of us on Facebook, which we just found funny.
3FZ – The present European economic crisis…how do you feel watching on TV that the working class that is being eating by big banks and capitalism.
To us, economic crises are integral parts of the capitalist system. Until there is a 
social revolution, we will continue to witness this type of economic phenomenon and its consequences, like the rise of fascism. This is why we identify as anti-capitalists and libertarians, because we believe that the only way to stop the capitalists and the big banks is to organize and fight to get rid of them for good. We also think that the antifascist struggle has to include the anti-capitalist and anti-state struggles because fascism is a by-product of these oppressive systems. We support everyone who fights against poverty and austerity in the world.
3FZ – Counter-cultural music is a weapon of anti-capitalist resistance, But, what is the next step for people, punks or skins, to do to get organize themselves.
We hope that our music can make the people in our scene think and hope that it can also serve as a weapon of resistance against different types of oppression. To us, the next step for punks and skins to organize would be the creation of different collectives, like RASH and Montreal Sisterhood. Political organizations must also become open to accepting punks and skins in their groups. We must politicize our scenes but also fight against the prejudice that is present against punks and skins.
3FZ – “A world where many worlds fits” is one of many Zapatista slogans. Have you heard about the Zapatista resistance, (EZLN), in the south of México?
There isn’t much French documentation on what is currently going on in Chiapas, but in the early 2000s, we often heard about the Zapatista resistance through the anti-globalization movement. From what we know, the EZLN resistance is admirable and should be used as an example for our current struggles. In Canada, there is also a very active native movement that we support as best we can and that we think should inspire itself from the struggle in Chiapas.
3FZ – The evolution of punk in the world is a positive thing for you? Do you think that the bands today are better than the bands before?
We don’t find this evolution positive or negative. Music has simply evolved, mixing styles and creating new ones which showcase many good bands, like there were many good bands before as well. Personally, we are influenced by old and new bands and are a mix of styles, not just punk or Oi!.
3FZ -What’s next for Action Sedition?
We plan on releasing an album next spring, possibly a split with a French band. (a split 7″ with Spanner has just come out and a split 10″ with Streets Of Rage is on its way! – Ed.) We are 
also going on tour this fall in Ontario, another region in Canada where the main language is English (whereas our songs are all in French). We are currently organizing a bigger tour throughout Europe for Fall 2014 (Spring 2015 actually! – Ed), in which we plan to play in Germany, France and England. We are very excited about these projects and we are also always open to invitations for shows, in Montreal or elsewhere, who knows maybe even in Mexico?!!?

Desde Montreal, Canadá, una banda libertaria de Skinheads. Ellos ya tienen algún par de años tocando y su material de 8 canciones es un disco que no debes de dejar de escuchar, una joya del OI! , Gracias a Erick y a toda la banda de ACTION SÉDITION por esta entrevista. Escúchalos!
3FZ.-Como están compas! Por favor, podrían presentarse ustedes mismos y además, contarnos la historia acerca de cómo comenzó esta banda.
AS.-Saludos camaradas! ACTION SÉDITION se forma de Milioi (ex Diarrhée Bucale, Les Gens D’armes) en el bajo y vocales, Remi (ex In Situ) en la Guitarra, BO (ex open wounds) en la guitarra, ERIC en vocales y JUNIOR en la batería. La banda fue hecha con esta alineación en septiembre del 2011, a esto le siguió nuestro primer show en Montreal. En los 5 años que llevamos hemos pasado por muchos proyectos donde estuvimos juntos. Nuestras influencias musicales son muy diferentes, vamos desde el Hardcore al Street punk y del Metal al Anarcopunk y obviamente el Oi!
3FZ.-“Rapport de Force” es un discazo! Un cd con 8 canciones tocadas al más puro estilo punk oi!. Que nos pueden contar acerca de este material y cuál es su discografía hasta ahora?
AS.-“Rapport de Force” es nuestro primer cd, el cual también sirvió como demo. Cuando tuvimos el tiempo de hacer un Cd, Teníamos suficientes canciones para un LP. Así que lo hicimos. El álbum esta hecho desde la ética del “hazlo tú mismo” y fue grabado en Hip Hop estudios, el cual pertenece a un amigo nuestro del colectivo K6A. Gracias a BO que estudio diseño gráfico realizamos el arte del disco para este CD. En las 8 canciones se manejan diferentes temas, el cual el centro es la política y la amistad. En nuestros conciertos, como en el disco, somos una banda que tiene una postura y nos consideramos a nosotros mismos libertarios, feministas y antifascistas y estamos orgullosas de ello. Muchos temas de este disco son muy importantes para nosotros; «Soeurs d’armes» habla acerca de la mujer en nuestra escena, «Prisonniers politiques» aborda con nuestro odio del sistema de justicia y su policía, «L’exploiteur» habla acerca de la explotación de los trabajadores en Sudamérica lo cuales tienen un salario muy bajo y producen artículos muy baratos a Norteamérica.
3FZ.-Cuentanos por qué decidieron nombrar a la banda ACTION SÉDITION?, Cual es el significado que ustedes le dan?,
AS.-Fue muy difícil para nosotros escoger el nombre, ya habíamos hecho algunos conciertos con esta alineación y seguíamos sin encontrar un nombre. Nos tomó cerca de 2 o 3 reuniones para decidir el nombre de ACTION SÉDITION, En Francés la palabra SÉDITION significa “un complot para derrocar al gobierno o su estructura actual” Muchos grupos revolucionarios a través de la historia han sido acusados de “SEDICIÓN” . Pensamos que sería un honor escoger ese nombre. La inspiración del nombre de la banda también fue por la canción “LA SEDITION” del grupo Hip Hop Francés “2 BAL 2 NEGS” el cual se incluye en el soundtrack de la película “MA 6-T VA CRACKER”. Esta película habla acerca de los guettos franceses y exactamente refleja nuestras ideas y valores en la temática.
3FZ.-Ustedes tienen a una mujer entre sus líneas y haciendo coros. En Montreal, que tan activa es la participación de la mujer dentro del movimiento punk o skin y organizaciones políticas?
AS.-En Montreal y otros cuando estas escenas están politizadas. Aquí en Montreal, muchas mujeres son miembros de bandas y colectivos y lugares, la mujer en la escena musical ha tenido que lidiar un con discurso abiertamente machista y actitudes de macho que se esconden en un aparente feminismo. Afortunadamente, la mujer sigue muy presente en la escena punk y skinhead, particularmente organizaciones comunistas o anarquistas. Hay un colectivo feminista llamado “MONTREAL SISTERHOOD” El grupo fue creado para hacer frente a las actitudes sexistas en nuestra escena y para pelear en contra del fascismo, patriarcado y el capitalismo
3FZ.-Ustedes como banda política, han tenido problemas en sus conciertos por sus ideas? Hablar de política es un problema en el movimiento en su país en estos días?
AS.-Nunca hemos tenido problemas relacionados con nuestras ideas políticas durante nuestros shows, tal vez problemas con nazis o policías. Montreal es relativamente es una ciudad muy abierta en política y los boneheads no son realmente una amenaza para nuestra escena. Las pequeñas cantidades de nazis que hay en el presente, permanecen bastante calladas y nunca tratar de atacar nuestros shows. Los boneheads siempre ha tenido problemas al organizar sus conciertos, al pasar esto, ellos realizan en secreto, en los suburbios, lejos de la ciudad. La única cosa que han hecho es subir fotos de nosotros en su facebook, lo cual nos da mucha risa.
3FZ.-La presente crisis económica Europea. Cómo lo ven desde su país a toda la clase trabajadora que está siendo devorada por los grandes bancos y el capitalismo?
AS.-Para nosotros, la crisis económica son partes integrales de este sistema capitalista, hasta que haya una revolución social. Seguiremos observando este tipo de fenómenos económicos a sus consecuencias, como el levantamiento del fascismo. Esto es porque nos identificamos como anticapitalistas y libertarios. Porque creemos que el único modo de parar al capitalismo y sus grandes bancos es organizándonos y tratar de eliminarlos para bien. También creemos que la lucha antifascista tiene que incluir el anti-capitalismo y la lucha anti Estado, porque el fascismo es un producto de estos sistemas opresivos. Apoyamos a todos los que pelean contra la pobreza y austeridad en el mundo.
3FZ.-La música contracultural es una arma de resistencia anticapitalista, pero?, cual es el siguiente paso a dar en la escena por los punks y skins, que más necesitan hacer!
AS.-Esperamos que nuestra música pueda hacer a la gente de nuestra escena pensar y pueda servir como un arma de resistencia contra diferentes tipos de opresión. Para nosotros el siguiente paso que deben de dar los punks o skins es organizarse, sería la creación de diferentes colectivos, como RASH y MONTREAL SISTERHOOD. Las organizaciones políticas se deben también volver muy abiertas al aceptar punks y skins en sus grupos. Debemos politizar nuestra escena pero también pelear contra los prejuicios que se presentan en contra de
3FZ.-“Un mundo donde quepan muchos mundos” es una de las muchas consignas Zapatistas. Han oído hablar de la resistencia Zapatista, EZLN, en el sur de México?
AS.-No hay mucha documentación en francés de lo que está ocurriendo en Chiapas, pero a principios del 2000s, a menudo escuchábamos sobre la Resistencia Zapatista a través del movimiento antiglobalización. De lo que sabemos, la resistencia del EZLN es admirable y debería ser usada de ejemplo para nuestra lucha diaria. En Canadá, hay también un movimiento de nativos muy activa, que apoyamos tanto como podemos que debería inspirarse y creemos desde la lucha en Chiapas.
3FZ.-La evolución de la música punk en el mundo, es una cosa positiva para ustedes? Creen que existan mejores bandas hoy en día, que por allá en los principios del punk?
AS.-No encontramos esta evolución como positiva o negativa. La música se desarrolla simplemente, mezclando estilos y creando nuevos, los cuales muestran miles de buenas bandas. Como hubo buenas bandas antes también. Personalmente, soy influenciado tanto por las viejas bandas como las recientes y mezclas de sonidos, no solo el punk u oi!
3FZ.-Cuales son sus planes para el futuro. Que es lo que sigue para ACTION SÉDITION?
AS.-Estamos planeando en realizar un álbum la siguiente primavera. Probablemente un Split con alguna banda francesa. También iremos este otoño a Ontario, otra región de Canadá donde el principal idioma es el Ingles (y todas nuestras canciones están en francés) Actualmente estamos organizando nuestro más grande tour en EUROPA para otoño del 2014, el cual planeamos tocar en Alemania, Francia, Inglaterra. Estamos muy emocionados por estos proyectos y estamos también siempre abiertos a invitaciones a tocar, en Montreal u otros lugares. Quién sabe, tal vez México?
